Belagavi, Oct 5 : Hundreds of farmers staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Saturday, demanding resignation of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, for issuing an incorrect statement regarding them.
The ryots assembled in front of the DC office, here and shouted slogans against the state government for delaying the flood-related compensation to the victims.
According to farmer leader Jayashree Gurannavar, the Deputy Chief Minister had made a 'sarcastic' comment on Friday, saying that he too owns 100 acres of land, where almost 80 acres of sugarcane crop had been damaged, leading to loss of around Rs 80 lakh.
Savadi made the statement in Athani, where he had accompanied Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyuappa, for distribution of flood-relief cheques to the victims.
Gurannavar told mediapersons here that the Deputy CM's statement was not in good humuor and he was telling lies.
The farmers collected money and decided to give it to the Dy CM, through the Deputy Commissioner, since he 'suffered a big loss'.(UNI)
