Mysuru, Sep 8 : In an attempt to give boost to Tourism sector, Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) will introduce Double Decker bus services between City of Palaces Mysuru and Heritage City Hampi by December this year.
According to KSTDC sources, six buses would be introduced in the first phase.
The buses, built on the lines of Big Bus models in London, are expected to get good response from the Tourists. Following the success of the ‘Open Bus’ rides introduced during last year’s Dasara celebrations, KSTDC has now decided to introduce double-decker buses in Mysuru. Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had allocated Rs 5 crore for launching six double decker buses for sight-seeing in Mysuru and Hampi.
Also, the Union Transport Ministry had identified five potential routes between Bengaluru-Mangaluru, Bengaluru-Chennai, Bengaluru-Hubballi, Bengaluru-Mysuru and Bengaluru-Hyderabad to run double-decker buses however., this project was yet to take off.
In 2006, the Karnataka Government had introduced such buses for Mysuru Dasara to cover 16 km. These internationally designed buses took tourists around tourist hot spots covering all major attractions such as Mysore Palace, Jaganmohan Palace, Zoo, Town Hall, Karanji Lake, Regional Museum of Natural History, Lalitha Mahal Palace, Railway Museum and the Railway Station.
