Madikeri, Aug 30 : Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress Legislative Party (CLP) Siddaramiah reiterated that the Union government should declare the floods in the State as National Calamity and release Rs 5000 Crores for taking up relief and rehabilitation works in the affected 22 Districts. Speaking to newsmen after visiting flood affected places at Karigudi in Somwarpet in Kodagu District, he alleged that Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has indulged in party politics and yet to bring to the knowledge of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the devastation caused due to flood and rain fury and bring pressure on the Union government to release fund urgently.
Stating that Prime Minister visiting the State for other purposes and not for survey of flood affected places and the State government has failed to impress upon Modi to visit the affected places. On the allegations that opposition parties have not visited the flood affected places and not responded, Siddaramaiah clarified that from congress party many leaders in groups visited several places immediately after the floods. “How many Ministers visited the flood affected places, only after one month some of them made their mind to visit, is it not their responsibility to hear public grievances,'' he questioned.
