New Delhi, Aug 16 : Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday here and requested for the immediate release of more grants to flood-hit Karnataka. Chief Secretary T M Vijayabhaskar, Union Ministers Suresh Angadi and Prahlad Joshi, were also present during their meeting. 'We had a long discussion and will be briefing Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and a team of experts,' Mr Yediyurappa told reporters.
The situation in flood-ravaged districts of Karnataka continued to be grim despite there is considerable let off in the devastation. Normal life was thrown out of gear especially in North Karnataka where thousands of people lost their houses, standing crops in vast tract of land were submerged and thousands of people were displaced due to surge of water into villages and towns. The death toll is increasing and many bodies were recovered from the debris. The toll was put at 62 by the Karnataka government. UNI
