Special package soon for Karnataka flood-hit areas

Shivamogga, Karnataka, Aug 13 : The Karnataka Government proposes to announce a special financial package to the flood-ravaged districts in the State, where large scale destruction of standing crops, dwelling houses,roads and electricity networks collapsed. After visiting some of the flood-hit areas in Tirthahalli taluk in the district, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said, “The district administrations concerned are assessing the extent of damage due to floods and rains and it is expected to complete in a week.”

The State government was committed to rehabilitate over 40,000 people displaced, the Chief Minister said. The flood fury has claimed more than 42 lives and in the devastation that was reported in 17 Districts were badly affected. More than 6 lakh people were displaced and another 3 lakh given shelter in relief camps. He has appealed to the Union government to release Rs 3,000 crore immediately to take up relief works.UNI
