Belagavi, Aug 10 : Former Chief minister and the senior JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy urged the Union government to release more funds to Karnataka, which is battering by the fury of floods. Speaking to newsmen after visiting some of the flood-affected areas in Belagavi district on Saturday, he said that “the damage done to Belagavi district is huge and the state as well as the Union government should release sufficient funds to re-build the confidence of the people”.
He said that in Belagavi district, more than 3037 houses had been collapsed, 187 villages were marooned, two people died and 37 cattle also perished, 54 bridges, 329 KM of road also washed away in the flood waters. “The Union government should liberally help the State Government in taking up relief works” he added. Former ministers S R Ramesh, Bandeppa Kashampur and others were also present on the occasion.UNI
