Bengaluru, Aug 10 : The Karnataka State Executive Committee headed by the Chief Secretary Vijaya Bhaskar has declared as many as 80 Taluks in 17 Districts of the State as flood hit and directed to take up relief works under NDRF and SDRF guidelines. The Committee, which met here on Friday, reviewed the flood situation, caused by the release of huge quantum of water from its various reservoirs by the Maharashtra Government and incessant rains lashing in several parts of the State.
The Committee, taking note of the of the widespread damage to private and public properties due to floods, had come to the conclusion to declare 80 taluks as flood-hit and take up the relief works, under the NDRF norms. As many as 24 people have died and over 2.60 lakh others were displaced and evacuated to safer places, following unprecedented rising of water level in both the Krishna and Cauvery basin in Karnataka. The standing crop in over 2.69 lakh hectares of agricultural land had also perished in the flood waters in the State.UNI
