Bagalkot , Karnataka, Aug 10 : The flood level in Krishna River remained much above the danger mark on Saturday and a record 5.30 lakh cusecs of water is being released from Almatti reservoir in the district on Saturday morning, The Krishan Bhagay Jala Nigam Ltd (KBJNL ) sources said.
Vijayapura district in-Charge Secretary Mohammed Mohisin has instructed the officials to take all precautionary measures to ensure the safety of people and livestock on the banks of Krishna and Bhima rivers.
The KBJNL source informed that on Saturday morning inflow into Almatti dam was recorded as 3,49,526 cusec and outflow from the dam initially 3.67 thousand cusecs yesterday night, was stepped up gradually by 11 AM and it touched 5.30 lakh cusecs this morning.
Today's water level of Almatti dam is 517.080 m against its FRL is 519.60 m.
As a result of this huge amount of water being released from the dam more areas along the river course was inundated drinking water projects and the pipelines were submerged in flood waters. The river water also entered Almatti gardens on the lap of the dam and uprooted many trees.
The Masuti village on the bank of Krishna river near Almatti is the worst affected as more than 38 houses in the village were marooned and some collapsed.(UNI)
