Bengaluru, July 30 : Former Karnataka Chief Minister and CLP leader Siddaramaiah today alleged that the ruling BJP party, by dropping celebration of Tipu Jayanti has proved itself as a unsecular party.
‘’I strongly oppose the move of the new BJP government headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. “Tipu belonged to minority section. They are (BJP) against minorities. They are also not secular. Their ideologies are also unsecular. 100 per cent I oppose it,” he told newsmen here on Tuesday.
Siddaramaiah, talking to newsmen here, said that “ I started Tipu Jayanti celebration three years ago. People of Karnataka accepted it. He (Tipu) was a man who fought against British rule. He is the first freedom fighter of the country. He is a historical man, that is why we celebrated and took a decision to celebrate it”.
Former Minister Zameer Ahmed, strongly condemning the State government’s to drop celebration of Tipu Jayanti, announced that “the Jayanti celebration will continue whether government does it or not”.(UNI)
