Karnataka govt sets to fall; all Congress MLAs resign

As all Congress MLAs including ministers have resigned from the JDS-Congress coalition, it is assumed that Karnataka's coalition government is heading towards an imminent downfall.

Congress ministers were invited for a breakfast this morning by their party leader G Parameshwara, the Deputy Chief Minister. It is learnt that If the resignations are accepted and not withdrawn, the Congress-Janata Dal Secular coalition could lose its majority. Speaker Ramesh Kumar, who said he was not in office when the resignations were submitted, will examine the letters on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy cut short his US holiday and got down to meetings soon after his return on Sunday evening. But no breakthrough has happened in his meeting with the leaders of the coalition partners.

The coalition between Mr. Kumaraswamy's Janata Dal Secular and the Congress, which took power last May, has been jolted by the resignation of 11 lawmakers from both parties on Saturday and two Congress MLAs last Monday. UNI
