Senior Congress leaders meet to review poll drubbing

Bengaluru, Jun 26: After suffering a humiliating defeat in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections, the senior Congress leaders in Karnataka, are holding meeting to know the reasons behind the debacle for the party.

Speaking to newsmen here on Wednesday, ahead of the meeting, AICC General Secretary and party incharge for Karnataka, K C Venugopal said that the meeting had been convened to know what went wrong for the Congress, which had a pre-poll alliance with the JDS and fielded candidates for 21 seats of the total total 28 Lok Sabha constituencies. Both the alliance won only one seat each, while opposition Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) bagged highest number of 25 seats and one seat was won by Independent candidate.

Stating that all the defeated Congress candidates in the Lok Sabha elections have been invited to elicit their opinion, he said that “a report on the party’s debacle in Karnataka elections will be submitted to the party High Command”.

KPCC President Dinesh Gundurao, Working President Eshwar Khandre, Congress Legislative Party leader Siddaramaiah among others are also taking part in the meeting, he said. (UNI)
