Bengaluru, June 7: Asserting that the ‘Modi Wave’ which reportedly swept the Lok Sabha election would not augur well for the country, former Prime Minister and JD(S) national president HD Devegowda urged the party workers not to lose morale following defeat in the election.
Addressing victorious candidates of the JD(S) in the urban local bodies election, in which JD(S) stood third, after the BJP, he said: “The local bodies election results had established that JD(S) is still alive and going strong”.
As many as 579 JD(S) candidates contested in the May-29 election had won against their BJP and the Congress candidates.
he was not worried over losing the Lok Sabha election, he said, “The defeat had infused more enthusiasm in me and I will fight to save the party.”
Promising that there will be no any threat to the JD(S)-Congress coalition government in Karnataka, he strongly defended Kumaraswamy’s decision to resume ‘Village Stay’ programme.
Party workers should not be blamed for the Lok Sabha poll debacle, he said, adding, “The confusion over fielding of alliance partner candidates was the main reason for the debacle to the party.”
