Water from Almati reservoir reaches drought-hit areas

Kalaburagi, May 30: The Regional Commissioner of Kalaburagi division Subhod Yadav on Thursday said that water was released from the Almatti reservoir to meet water requirements in the drought-hit Hyderabad-Karnataka region including Kalaburagi, Raichur and Yadgir districts.

In a statement on Thursday, he said that One Tmc ft of water, against the demand for 1.25 Tmc ft, was released from the Almatti to different water storage facilities in Kalaburagi, Yadgir and Raichur districts.

The statement said that the Bhima river has dried up and the water level in the Basvasagar reservoir had reached dead storage. The water from Almatti Reservoir was first released to Basavasagar Reservoir and then it will be diverted to branch canals of respective districts. (UNI)
