Dharwad, May 15 : Senior Congress leaders including Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Dinesh Gundu Rao, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Siddaramaiah, AICC General Secretary Incharge of party affairs in Karnataka K C Venugopal and Ministers held a meeting to chalk out strategy to retain both the assembly seats-- Kundagol and Chincholi-- for which polling is slated for May 19.
According to Congress party sources, the leaders, who met here on Wednesday, took stock of the party’s prospects in both the Assembly segments and decided to scale up the campaign to retain both the seats.
Both the Congress and the Opposition BJP have put up a fierce political battle in both the Assembly segments and top leaders from both the parties are involved in roadshows, public rallies and house-to-house campaign to win over the voters.

CS Shivalli, for the Kundagol Assembly seat, it had chosen Subhash Rathod, a former BJP leader to contest from the Chincholi Assembly constituency, for which byelection was caused following the resignation submitted by the sitting Congress member Dr Umesh Jadhav.
While the Congress has assigned the responsibility of taking reigns of the party’s poll campaign in Kundagol to Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar and the Home Minister M B Patil, while Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara and Social Welfare Minister Priyank Kharge are leading the party’s campaign in Chincholi.
With just two days are left before campaign ends on Friday, the party leaders have decided to take stock of the situation and work out last minute strategies to pip the Opposition BJP candidates in both the Assembly segments, a party functionary told uni after the meeting. (UNI)
