Dharmasthala, May 2 : The sitting Lok Sabha member from the Tumkur Lok Sabha seat, Mudduhanumegowda, who had conceded his seat to JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, has denied charges that he had received a huge money for not contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to newsmen, after offering pooja to the Lord Manjunatha here in Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday, Gowda said that “standing in the holy place of Dharmasthala I do hereby deny the charges of receiving money for not contesting the elections”.

Stating that he remained away from contesting the elections following seat sharing agreement between the Congress and the JD(S) leaders, he reminded that he was the only sitting Congress MPs, denied the party ticket to seek re-election to the Lok Sabha.

Expressing anguish over statement by a party sympathiser that he had received money for conceding his seat to Deve Gowda, he said that “I had to come here and deny such a serious charge, as those to whom I had conceded the seat did not open their mouth on this issue”.

He also expressed gratitude to the Deputy Chief minister G Parameshwara, KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao and former Chief minister Siddaramaiah, for their support in this controversy. (UNI)
