Chamarajanagara, Karnataka, Apr 12 : Karnataka Forest Staff fired at poachers in self defence and seized one jeep with 400 kg wild meat and arms at M M Hills Life Sanctuary on Tamil Nadu border.
Forest officials said on Friday that they have seized 400 kg wild met, arms, snares from them.
The incident occurred when the officials received specific information on the movement of suspected poachers in a jeep on Thursday evening, the forest officials spotted the team of four members across the Palar river bordering Tamil Nadu. After seeing the forest officials the poachers started firing at them and it was returned.
However, the culprits escaped. Later the officials crossed the river and confiscated the items that were left behind by the poachers. They also found fresh meat and parts of the animals packed in the bags.
It was suspected that the Poachers might have come from Erode range. The Jeep and materials seized were handed over to Erode range forest officer. (UNI)
