Dharwad, Apr 1: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) Central Election Committee will put an end to speculations by announcing the party's candidate for the Dharwad Lok Sabha seat soon, Senior Congress leader and Karnataka Minister for Revenue R V Deshapande said today.
Speaking to newsmen here on Monday, he said that the AICC will select suitable candidate for the Dharwad Lok Sabha for which stiff competition is going on by multiple aspirants for the seat. Congress is a secular party and is not fielding its candidates on the basis of caste or creed.
Former Minister Vinaya Kulkarni, one of the strong contender for the party ticket for Dharwad seat, said that "I am one of the aspirants and have confidence that party will nominate me to fight the elections."
He ruled out any possibilities of turning rebel and contesting as an independent candidate if he was denied ticket. "I have no any such plans", he added.
It may be recalled that the Congress which is fighting the coming Lok Sabha elections jointly with its coalition partner JD(S) had announced its nominees for all the 20 seats except Dharwad.
