Kalaburagi, Mar 19: BJP Karnataka General Secretary N Ravikumar on Tuesday urged State Legislative Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar to accept the resignation of Chincholi MLA Dr Umesh Jadhav submitted about 15 days ago.
Addressing a press conference here, he said that Dr Umesh Jadhav will be the probable BJP candidate for Gulbarga Lok sabha constituency against Congress veteran leader Mallikajun Kharge. Mr Ravikumar took exception to the abnormal delay in accepting the resignation.
It was a constitutional right to change political affiliations and as Dr Jadhav was contesting the Lok Sabha polls by resigning as MLA, there was a need to ensure that the MLA seat is not left vacant for a long time. Accepting his resignation would pave the way for holding byelection to the seat and would help people of the constituency, he argued.
Mr Ravikumar argued that he has full confidence in Speaker Ramesh Kumar, but prolong delay was suspicious, on consulting advocate said that Dr Jadhav was fully legal on tendering his resignation. (UNI)
