Bengaluru, Mar 12: Former Karnataka Minister and senior Congress leader A Manju from Hassan district, who is upset with the JD(S)-Congress pre-poll alliance for the coming Lok Sabha elections, is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and take on likely JD(S) candidate Prajval Revanna, son of Minister H D Revanna, from Hassan Lok Sabha seat.

According to State BJP sources, Mr Manju who contested against JD(S) supremo H D Devegowda and lost by a narrow margin of 56,000 votes in 2014 election, is nursing his ambition to fight the coming Lok Sabha elections again. He has already held two rounds of meeting with the State BJP leaders to join the Saffron Party, a top BJP leader said on Tuesday

Mr Manju, a strong votary against the Congress party not contesting from Hassan Lok Sabha seat and concede it to JD(S), had openly rebelled against the state Congress leaders on the issue.

BJP sources said that the Congress leader had offered to contest on the party ticket if he was allowed to contest in the coming Lok Sabha election.

However the district BJP leaders are not enthusiastic on admitting Mr Manju into the BJP fold and field him as the candidate for the Hassan seat. The District BJP President Yoga Ramesh, in a press conference protested yesterday expressed reservations over top party leaders for inviting the Congress leader to the party fold and give him the party ticket. "Mr Manju who has no mass following and now rendered himself as a spent-force. This is the reason he is looking at the BJP. He should not be given theparty ticket".

However, State BJP President B S Yeddyurappa has already held a meeting with the district BJP leaders on Tuesday and discussed about admitting Manju and field him as the BJP candidate in Hassan. (UNI)
