Mysuru, Feb 28 : The Coffee land Kodagu district will be on the railway map as railway authorities have approved the rail link between Musuru-Kushalanagara.
The total cost of the project which was sanctioned was Rs 1,854.62 Crores for 87 km track. The Railway Board in its letter, dated February 27, 2019, to the General Manager, South Western Railway, said that the competent authority had accorded approval for the inclusion of the Mysuru (Belagola) - Kushalnagar new line project.
The project was included in the Pink Book (railway’s parlance for a list of approved works) in 2018-19 under “Umbrella Work of New Lines”. The break-up of the cost has been worked out as per which the civil engineering works has been allocated Rs 1,723.78 Crore, electrical engineering department will receive Rs 70.91 Crore of which Rs 11.85 Crore is for general electrical works.
Signalling and telecommunication department has been allocated Rs 59.93 crore. BJP Lok Sabha member Pratap Simha, expressing his happiness thanked Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
Though there is opposition to railway project in Kodagu due to environmental factors, Mr Simha has said earlier that the rail link will not be extended to Madikeri but will terminate at Kushalnagar. (UNI)
