Karnataka CM seeks Army help to extinguish forest fire

Bengaluru, Feb 25 : Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has appealed to the Army to provide its helicopters help to fight extinguishing the devastating fire that has severely damaged 8000 hectares of forest land in Bandipur National Park and Tiger Reserve since last three days.

After taking stock of the situation about the fire mishap which is yet to come under control despite more than 60 fire fighters and police struggling day and night, he asked the officials to airlift water from Nugu Reservoir in H D Kote Taluk. He also instructed all the top Forest officials from Bengaluru and other nearby forest offices to rush to the devastated area.

Following the request from the Karnataka Chief Minister, the Army is taking stock of the situation by conducting the survey before pressing special Helicopters which can carry more than 3700 liters of water into service. However, no loss of human being or animal was reported so far. Efforts are continuing to curtail spread of the fire. UNI
