A 46 year-old man shot dead in an accidental firing

Belagavi, Feb 20: A 46 year-old man was shot dead in accidental firing from a revolver during a Village festival (Jathra) at Rangeswara Temple in Dhavaleshwar village in Kulgod Police Station limits in the District on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police Sudhirkumar Reddy said that the victim was identified as Nijaguni Maharudrappa Angadi.

Accused Mahadev Bhimappa Nadagouda was firing once from his revolver for completion of one round of carrying the god in procession and while firing the fifth round the bullet hit Nijaguni Maharudrappa Angadi.

Mr Reddy said that on verification it was found the license was in the name of the accused.

He said that complaint was not yet received. It will be taken from relatives of deceased and a case will be registered in Kulgod Police station.

The body was sent for postmortem at Gokak civil hospital.

Mr Reddy said that investigation will be taken up after registering a case. (UNI)
