Bengaluru, Feb 8: Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader in Karnataka has decided to write to the Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar to take action under Anti-Defection Law against four of its MLAs who stayed away from the Budget Session and the CLP meeting that preluded the session despite issuing Whip to them, CLP Leader Siddaramaiah said today.
Addressing a press conference after CLP meeting here, the former Chief Minister said "by Friday evening will meet the Speaker with a letter to take action as per law against Legislators Ramesh Jarkiholi, Nagendra, Umesh Jadhav and Mahesh Kumatalli.
Mr Siddaramaiah said the party had served Show Cause notice on the above four MLAs and they had replied that due to various reasons and personal work they are unable to attend the Session till Feb 15. However, they have mentioned that they are very much with Congress and will not quit Congress, he claimed.
The CLP leader said the four MLAs also stated that they have confidence in Congress leadership. 'However, when they were asked to personally appear before me to justify the reasons, they remain absent. So far no response from them and they have stayed away from the Budget Session in violation of the Party Whip and hence the CLP decided to write to the Speaker to take action under Anti-Defection Act," Mr Siddaramaiah said.
He said that "if necessary the party will also file a complaint with the Police against the four MLAs if they do not come out in open.
