Mysuru, Feb 4 : A gang of six people were arrested in connection with kidnap and murder of a Palm Oil merchant for extortion of money, Superintendent of Police Amit Singh said here today.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that “one Xylo car, cash Rs 1,54,450, one Scooter and cell phone of the deceased and six cell phones have been seized from the gang”.
He said that the arrested have been identified as M S Sridhar of K R Mohalla, Manjunath of Metagalli, Manju of Kumbarakoppal, Imran, a resident of Bannur and Imran Pasha.
The gang had murdered a palm oil merchant Chendil, son of C R Raju of K R Mohalla here. The body of the deceased was found near Raja Parameshwari Canal on January 29. The murderers who had kidnapped the merchant had murdered him as they didn’t get more money,” he added.
“The culprits had abducted Chendil on January 28 on the pretext of negotiating a deal on purchase of Palm oil. They demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakh for his release. As he didn’t had that much money, he pleaded for some more time and called his brother-in-law to give money to the abductors. His brother-in-law Neelakanta handed over Rs 2.22 lakh to one of the abductor who had masked his face. With the fear of being caught, they killed Chendil and threw his body into the canal,” said ASP P V Sneha.
Mr Singh, who took the case seriously, formed an investigation team led by Nanjangud DySP Mallik and others carried out the operation. (UNI)
