Water release from Krishna river for irrigation resumed from November 25

Vijayapura. Nov 29: The Krishna water release to canals for irrigation purpose, which was stopped since November 14, resumed from November 25 and would continued up to December 4, the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Ltd (KBJNL ) source said here on Thursday.

The Irrigation Consultative Committee meeting held recently had decided not to provide water for the Rabi crops. However, due to pressure from farmers the ICC Chairman Shivananda Patil instructed the KBJNL officials to release water to the canals to protect the standing crops , the source said .

The KBJNL officials said that water was released to Almatti left bank, Malawad east, west and Chimmalagi east, west and Timmapur lift irrigation project canals. Every day 0.10 tmcft water was being released for 10 days. A total of 12.87 cusecs water through three pump sets would be flown into Almatti left bank canal while 10 cusecs water would be released through two pump sets to right bank canal. Water would be provided to Timmapur Lift irrigation project from Almatti Left bank canal.This would help irrigate the crops in 30,000 acres of land in Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts. (UNI)
