Mangaluru, Nov 8 : Opposition Leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa said here on Thursday that the party will hold a major protest in the state on November 9 against JDS-Congress coalition government’s plan to celebrate birth anniversary of 19th century warrior king Tipu Sultan on November 10 saying that it was against people’s sentiments.
Speaking to reporters at Bajpe Airport here, he said ‘’We are opposing Tipu Jayanti celebration. Nobody will appreciate this celebration. In the interest of the people the state government must stop it. Government’s intention behind Tipu Jayanti celebration is just to satisfy Muslim community’’.
The BJP leader is in this Port City to participate in Sabarimala Samrakshana Ratha Yatra.
Meanwhile, to a question on Central Crime Branch raids on former Minister and iron ore baron Janardhana Reddy’s residences in Ballari and in Bengaluru over his alleged involvement in a money laundering case, Mr Yeddyurappa said he would not agree that the State government was targetting Reddy after BJP’s defeat in by-election to Ballari Lok Sabha segment, which was wrested by the party after 14 years by Congress, ending the BJP reign in the district.
‘’I don’t agree, whoever has done wrong should be prosecuted. Everything should be done according to law’’.
He reiterated that Reddy was no more a BJP leader after the party had disowned him following his arrest in the illegal mining scam in mineral rich Ballari.
CCB police are on the lookout of Reddy who is absconding to question him on his alleged involvement for demanding and accepting Rs 20 crore in cash and gold from a 'ponzi' scheme operative who is now arrested. (UNI)
