Unlike early prediction of the close-fight, BJP Chief Yeddyurappa’s son, BY Raghavendra has pulled a rather easy victory in Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat by 47,388 votes. Shivamogga was the only constituency which supported BJP in Karnataka bypoll while Congress-JDS combine swept the rest of four constituencies.
Raghavendra has secured 489.959 votes. With this win, BJP's strength in the Shivamogga region has been reinforced. Earlier, it was predicted that the fight in Shivamogga will be neck-to-neck as the JdS-Congress coalition put son of former Chief Minister S Bangarappa, Madhu Bangarappa as the candidate. Shivamogga district is dominated by members of Ligayat community. Ragavendra belongs to this community.
Shivamogga has finally saved the face of BJP Chief Yeddyurappa. Raghavendra has represented the seat from 2009 to 2014.
