Ranchi, Jun 3 : Chief Minister Hemant Soren has reached out to national level archer Sonu Khatoon, who is forced to sell vegetables to meet the financial needs of her family.
The chief minister had asked Dhanbad DC to help the 23-year-old ace archer. He said that the state government was taking all necessary steps for the betterment of sportspersons in the state and providing best opportunities and facilities to them. Soren said he was pained to learn that Sonu was selling vegetables on the road and leading a life of hardship.
Following the directions of the Chief Minister, Dhanbad DC Amit Kumar spoke to Sonu and learned that she was forced to discontinue the sport after her Indian round bow broke.
The daughter of a construction labourer, Sonu worked as a domestic help with her mother, but lost the job due to lockdown and took to selling vegetables to make a living. Kumar said the district administration has given her a cheque of Rs 20,000 and will extend more help to her in future. (UNI)
