BJP signals end of alliance with AJSU

Agency News

Ranchi, Nov 13: The central election committee of the BJP has cleared the name of Sukhdeo Bhagat as the party nominee from Lohardaga (ST) assembly seat on the last date of filing of nominations.

Well past into midnight Mr Bhagat reached the party headquarters and returned to Lohardaga with the party symbol and earlier in the day today filed his nominations from the seat. Lohardaga and Chandankiyari became the biggest bone of contention between the BJP and its junior ally AJSU over the seat sharing agreement.

The Sudesh Mahto led outfit had demanded 17 seats from BJP but as things failed to materialise it went ahead and announced candidates on 12 seats in which it had pitted its candidates on four seats against the BJP.

AJSU also put up its candidate in Chakardharpur from where state BJP chief Laxman Giluwa has been named as a candidate. Though no official word has been communicated over the breaking of alliance but BJP leaders claimed that the damage has already been done by AJSU and it was better to go alone in the polls. (UNI)
