Driver dies due to COVID-19 in Kashmir; Death toll rises to 47

Srinagar, Jun 9 : A driver from Baramulla, who was injured in an accident last month, died due to COVID-19 at a hospital in this summer capital on Tuesday, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 47. With this death, 11 people have lost their lives due to infection during the last 72 hours, and 33 people in 21 days in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have surpassed 4200-mark. Official sources said that a 52-year-old man, a resident of Sopore in Baramulla, was admitted to SHMS hospital on May 19 after he met with an accident. “The patient tested positive for COVID19 two days back following which he was referred to Chest Disease hospital,” they said.

They said that the patient developed complications and died in the wee hours on Tuesday. “The last rites of the deceased would be done in accordance with the MHA guidelines,” they added. Ten districts of Jammu have reported five fatalities while 42 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir. With this fatality, the death toll in Baramulla has risen to nine. Srinagar is the worst affected district with 12 deaths, followed by Baramulla with nine fatalities. Anantnag stands at number three with five deaths while Kulgam and Shopian are at number four with four fatalities each. (UNI)
