Horse home quarantined in J&K’s Rajouri

Jammu, May 26 : In a first kind of its incident in the Union territory, a horse has been home quarantined while his owner has been sent to an administrative quarantine in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. A horse with a travel history from Kashmir has been quarantined by the district administration as they do want to take any risk. “A team of police intercepted a man on Tuesday evening who had travelled to Rajouri district from Kashmir via Mughal road along with his horse in Thanamandi area,” Chandan Kohli, Senior Superintendent of Police, District Rajouri here said.

He said that the man was intercepted along with the horse and immediately put under quarantine for having a travel history. “We have sent the horse owner to administrative quarantine but kept the horse in-home quarantine till further action,” said the top cop adding that decision on conducting sampling or testing of the animal depends on the symptoms. Meanwhile, an administrative official expressed that the caretakers have been directed to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits while dealing with the horse and he will be monitored by veterinary experts till a four weeks period of quarantine.
