Srinagar, May 26 : Two minor girls drowned while three others were rescued from a pond after they slipped into the water body on the Srinagar outskirts, official sources said on Tuesday. They said a group of girls were playing near a small pond, which is adjacent to a stone quarry in Zewan in Srinagar on Monday.
''Five girls slipped and fell into the water body,'' they said, adding a rescue operation was immediately launched. They said all the girls were rescued though two of them developed breathing problems. ''The duo was rushed to Sub District Hospital Pampore, where they were declared brought dead,'' they said.
They said after completing all the legal and medical formalities, the bodies of the deceased, identified as Rounak and Rutba, were handed over to their relatives for last rites. Police have registered a case and initiated investigation into the incident. (UNI)
