Five doctors test positive for COVID-19 in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 18 : Five doctors, including four of them who treated an infected patient, tested positive for COVID-19 in the summer capital, Srinagar on Monday. Meanwhile, urging people to take precautions, Head of Department at Chest Disease Hospital, Srinagar, Dr Naveed Nazir Shah on Monday said no one is immune to the infection. He said five doctors have been tested positive for CVID-19. Four of them were treating a single positive patient.

“No one is immune to the infection. Please take precautions; the whole health department is at the service of all. Cooperate and follow advisories,” he added. Giving details, official sources said that three of are from the ENT section of SHMS, hospital, one from Dental College and one from SKIMS, Bemina. He said the doctor from Dental College and three from the ENT sector of SHMS hospital had treated the 29-year-old woman, who died of COVID-19 on Sunday. The 29-year-old woman, a resident of Habba Kadal, was the latest victim of COVID-19 after she developed complications. This was the second death due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours and fourth last week in J&K, which recorded the highest single-week jump of 389 COVID-19 cases between May 11 and May 17.

They said that the woman died at Chest Disease hospital, Srinagar, at around 1600 hrs on Sunday, about two days after being tested positive for the virus. “The woman was operated at SMHS Hospital by ENT surgeons for Ludwig’s Angina and Septic Shock. She was tested positive for COVID-19 in the Surgical ICU of SHMS on Friday,” they said, adding the patient was immediately shifted to CD hospital. “The patient developed complications, including Mediastinitis, following which she died on Sunday,” they added. Srinagar has witnessed five deaths due to COVID-19 infection, the highest in any district of J&K. (UNI)
