Omar pays tributes to martyrs of Handwara encounter

Srinagar, May 3 : Paying tributes to five security force personnel who attained martyrdom during encounter with militants at Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara, former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the soldiers laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Vice president of the National Conference (NC) taking to micro-blogging site twitter on Sunday said “Sorry to hear about the army & police officers & the jawans who laid down their lives in the line of duty in Handwara this morning. May their souls rest in peace & may their families & colleagues find strength at this difficult time.” At a time when armed forces are paying tributes to frontline Corona warriors five personnel -- Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, Major Anuj Sood, Naik Rajesh, Lance Naik Dinesh, all from 21 Rashtriya Rifles, and Sub Inspector (SI) of Jammu and Kashmir police Shakeel Qazi—were martyred in the encounter which ensued on Saturday at Handwara. Two militants were also killed. (UNI)
