Jammu, Apr 17: A 74-year old pensioner from Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory gets a booster after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded his effort in the fight against the Coronavirus.
Yog Raj Mengi, a pensioner from Reasi, was in upbeat mood on Thursday when he came to know about his mention made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his twitter handle.
The Prime Minister tweeted, “Proud of citizens like him! They are adding so much might in the battle against COVID-19”.
Mr Modi’s appreciation for “adding so much might in the battle against Covid-19”, double the efficiency of this pensioner, who had so far made and distributed over 6,500 masks among needy people, especially migrant labourers and inhabitants of the higher reaches adjoining Reasi town, from his pocket.
Mengi usually spends 80 per cent of his pension for the destitute and needy people.
Earlier he had distributed over 4,500 cotton bags to the residents of Reasi town to make this area free from polythene.
Mengi said that he does not have a social media account but some people told him that the Prime Minister has appreciated his work.
With the support of some people of his ideologies, Mengi has adopted Seela village of the district where they have been providing food to nearly 30 needy families of labourers.
“Such appreciation will encourage me to work with double force and dedication in the battle against covid-19,” he added and said that he has started distribution of masks in the last week of February and will continue as long as there is need for it. (UNI)
