Lockdown: Pregnant woman delivers baby in police van in Jammu

Jammu, Apr 12: In a rarest incident, a woman delivered a child inside the police van while on her way to the hospital during the lockdown here in the Channi Himat area.

A police spokesman on Sunday said that on the intervening night of April 11-12, a distress call was received from Police Control Room Jammu that a woman namely Sonia Devi, resident of Birache, Utter Pradesh, at present Sector Number 3, Channi Himmat Jammu is pregnant and suffering from labour pain.

''Due to lockdown, there was no mean of transportation to reach at the hospital,'' police said and added that acting swiftly on the information, police party of Police Station Channi Himmat, reached the spot to rush the woman to the hospital in a police van. The spokesman said that on way to the hospital, the woman gave birth to baby in the van and after giving first aid to her, she was shifted back to her residence. The locals appreciated the act of J&K Police during ongoing COVID-19 crisis. (UNI)
