COVID-19: J&K LG launches Toll Free ambulance service; retired doctors to be hired

Jammu, Mar 24: In view of coronavirus outbreak, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu on Tuesday launched a Toll Free ambulance service, dedicated Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for COVID-19 and announced that retired doctors would be inducted.

Official spokesman here said that Mr Murmu launched 102/108 Toll Free Ambulance Service in the UT of J&K.

Operationalisation of Ambulance Service will ensure the delivery of public health care services to the patients at their doorsteps by providing transportation to patients requiring immediate medical care, the spokesman said.

In the Advisory Council meeting chaired by Mr Murmu, it was decided that GMC Jammu has been declared as dedicated COVID hospital for Jammu province. The hospital is to be readied by Wednesday evening.

Moreover, the sources said that retired doctors are to be hired against vacancies on contract for one year in underserved areas.

So far four people have tested positive of coronavirus in J&K.

The UT is put under lock down on the directions of the government barring essential services and essential commodities. (UNI)
