Drug peddler arrested, contraband recovered in Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 10 : Police on Tuesday arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband from him in the summer capital, Srinagar. A police spokesperson said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established on 90 feet in downtown Srinagar on Tuesday.

“Police intercepted an auto-rickshaw at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 50 grams of cannabis,” he said. He said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat, was immediately arrested and lodged in Police Station Soura.

“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation into the matter is in progress,” he said. He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. “Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” he added.
