Jammu Ban Toll firing: Terrorist killed, jawan injured, truck driver held

Jammu, Jan 31: Security forces gunned down one terrorist while one security personnel suffered injuries in a gun battle near Ban Toll at Nagrota here on city outskirts on Friday. However, the truck driver ferrying a group of terrorists have been arrested.

"One of the terrorists have been neutralised by the security forces," a senior CRPF official said. He further said that the operation was still in progress, adding," in the wee hours, terrorists fired at CRPF Camp near Ban Toll injuring one jawan." He revealed that early morning, a group of two to three terrorists opened firing near Ban Toll in Nagrota area, adding, "four rounds were fired near CRPF camp at Ban Toll at Nagrota on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, some 12-kms from here." He stated that taking an advantage of darkness, the suspected persons escaped from the spot. After this the militants slipped away, "police, CRPF and Army personnel were rushed to the spot and searches are in progress', he added.

"Police intercepted a Srinagar bound truck at Ban Toll Plaza on Jammu-Srinagar Highway," police spokesman said. He added that the truck bound terrorists fired on security personnel triggering an encounter. "The terrorists were travelling towards Kashmir when intercepted near Ban Toll at Nagrota by the CRPF nakka party," police sources said. The driver of the truck, identified as Mohammad Maqbool Wani of Anantnag has been arrested. J&K DGP Dilbagh said that these terrorists were a newly infiltrated group and were on their way to Srinagar. "It is suspected that they infiltrated from Kathua, Hiranagar border. Investigation is on," said the police chief.

The District Magistrate Udhampur has ordered suspension of class work in Degree College Boys and Girls at Udhampur for the day in view of ongoing combat operation. Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has also been stopped as precautionary measure till further orders following which there is a rush of stranded vehicles on the highway.
