New Delhi, Jan 16 : Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) have carried out a search & rescue operation at Niraq in Zanskar valley in Ladakh.
The rescue team has rescued 71 trekkers in the last two days. The trekkers were on the famous 'Chadar Trek' when they got stranded due to sudden flooding of the river, IAF spokesperson Group Capt Anupam Banerjee said. "The Air Force immediately launched the rescue operation which ended with the rescue of 71 people from Leh", he added.
Efforts to rescue the remaining persons, which includes 9 French and Chinese nationals at Padum, are continuing in spite of prevailing adverse weather conditions, the spokesperson said. Last week, the Army had also launched a multiple Search & Rescue columns of the Fire & Fury Corps and rescued a group of tourists who were stranded in bad weather. (UNI)
