In the fourth terror-related incident to target the state's Rs 8,000-crore apple industry, suspected militants today shot dead two drivers of apple-laden trucks in Shopian district in Kashmir, leaving another one injured.
One of those killed was identified as Ilyas Khan from Alwar, Rajasthan, while the identity of the second deceased was yet to be ascertained. The injured has been identified as Jeevan Singh of Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
Singh, who had been hit by three bullets in his abdomen, was rushed to the SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, where his condition was stated to be critical.
So far five non-locals, including a migrant labourer, has been killed in the terror strikes in south Kashmir since October 7.
Police sources said the truck drivers were loading apples in the Chitragam area in Shopian district when they were targeted at around 7 pm. The militants also set three trucks on fire to create fear among truckers, especially from outside the state.
