Agency News

Srinagar, Oct 12 : Five civilians were injured in a grenade attack in the summer capital, Srinagar on Saturday, official sources said.

The grenade attack in the heart of the city comes on a day when authorities announced restoration of postpaid mobile phone services from October 14 in Kashmir valley, ending a gag on the service for 70 days.

Sources said that militants lobbed a grenade at security forces near Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar on Saturday afternoon. “ Five civilianswere injured, including one critically, in the blast,” they said. They said the injured were immediately taken to SHMS hospital, adding militants managed to escape during the chaos created during the blast.

They said additional security forces have been rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.

“Security forces have also established checkpoint within five km of the radius of the blast and are conducting searches of vehicles, particularly motorcycles, before allowing them to move forward,” they added.
