Srinagar, Sep 15 : The authorities will initiate strict action against rumour mongers in Kashmir valley, where a communication gag, including suspension of mobile phones and internet services, continued since Article 370 and Article 35 A were scrapped on August 5.
Meanwhile, life remained crippled for the 42nd day on Sunday in Kashmir valley, where people are protesting against scrapping of the special status of J&K, besides bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories on August 5.
An official said that to create a safe and secure atmosphere across valley, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan directed officers concerned to initiate action against rumour mongers, who are spreading fake and fabricated news among the general public and creating a sense of fear and anxiety in the society.
'Concerned departments were asked to identify rumour elements in all areas and arrest them immediately under law,' he added.
Train service in Kashmir valley remained suspended since August 5 for security reasons. The internet service of all Cellular companies, including broadband of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), also remained suspended for the past 42 days badly hitting students, media persons, doctors and other professionals. However, landlines, which were restored last week since August 5, are working in the valley.
