New Delhi, Sep 10: The Government on Tuesday decided to procure apple directly from growers in Jammu and Kashmir through the Government run NAFED during the current season 2019, a Home Ministry officials said here.
“The apple procurement in the state will be done by the State-run National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) the entire process through designated state government agencies by December 15”, the Union Home Ministry said.
The Home and Agriculture Ministries will oversee the smooth implementation of the process.
The State Government will ensure direct payment in the Bank Account of the apple grower through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), the officials said.
All categories of apples will be procured from all the apple producing districts in Jammu and Kashmir as well as designated mandis in Sopore, Shopian and Srinagar and fair prices for various categories will be fixed by the Price Committee that includes a member from the National Horticulture Board.
The ‘Quality Committee’ will ensure proper grading of varieties of apples and the implementation and coordination committee at the State level will be chaired by the Chief Secretary, the official said.
Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Home Affairs and other Central agencies will oversee smooth implementation of the Scheme, he added. (UNI)
