Srinagar, Aug 3 : With the first light on Saturday morning security forces resumed Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Shopian, where so far a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant and a soldier were killed and a jawan injured, official sources said.There was no fresh firing since Friday night, they said adding searches were still being conducted in the area. Meanwhile, mobile internet service remained suspended in Shopian for the second day on Saturday as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.
Search operation was resumed with the first light this morning after entire area remained under cordon during the night, they said. Sources said on a tip off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at village Pandushan, Shopian in the wee hours of Friday.
However, when the troops were moving towards a particular party in the village, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said adding in the initial encounter two soldiers were injured Sepoy Rambir and Sepoy Deepak. The injured were rushed to hospital where one of them identified as Rambir succumbed, sources said adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in.
A police spokesman said body of a militant identified as Zeenatul Islam, a local resident was recovered from the encounter site. He was affiliated with JeM, spokesman said. He said the operation was going on when the reports last came in.UNI
