Flood alert in South Kashmir, Srinagar

Pennews

A flood alert has been declared in South Kashmir and Srinagar after the Jhelum river crossed the 18-ft level on Thursday and the Meteorological department predicted that the weather would remain turbulent during the next 24 hours.

The water level in the river has increased due to heavy rain from the past two days.Heavy snowfall in Sonamarg and heavy downpour in the south Kashmir catchment areas of the Jhelum have led to the overall increase in the water level of most of the water bodies and mountain streams.

'Flash floods have washed away some bridges built over mountain streams in Bandipora and Tangmarg. The excess water has also inundated apple orchards in Baramulla district,' reports said.
