Killing of BJP VP in Anantnag by gunmen widely condemned

Srinagar, May 5: Killing of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice President district Anantnag Gull Mohammad Mir in south Kashmir by unidentified gunmen was widely condemned by leaders of different political parties, officials on Sunday said.

Two former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, Peoples Conference (PC) chairman Sajjad Gani Lone and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) have strongly condemned the killing.

Meanwhile, police has registered a case and initiated proceedings to nab the gunmen responsible for the killing of Mir. Taking to micro-blogging site twitter Vice President of National Conference (NC) Omar said “ Ghulam Mohd Mir, office bearer of the BJP in South Kashmir has been shot & killed in Nowgam, Verinag. I condemn this dastardly act of violence & pray for the soul of the departed, Allah Jannat naseeb karey”.

He further said “Gul Mohd Mir was the District Vice President of the BJP state unit. May his family & loved ones find strength at this difficult time.” Omar said “BJP leader Gul Mohammad Mir killed in Verinag, Anantnag. BJP says Mirs security was recently withdrawn by Governor administration.”

President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba in a tweet said “ I strongly condemn the killing of @BJP4India leader Gul Muhammad Mir in Verinag, South Kashmir. My condolences to the bereaved family and prayers for the departed soul.”

PC chairman and former minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government Sajjad in a tweet said “Condemn the barbaric killing of BJP district Vice President in Verinag. Killing unarmed political activists is an act of cowardice”.

BJP in official twitter account of the party in J&K said “ Killing of BJP leader Sh Gul Mohd Mir from Doru, Anantnag is highly condemnable & clearly exposes frustration of wrong elements who have no respect for religion of peace. State BJP prays for peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss”.Mir was fired upon by gunmen at Nowgam Verinag in Anantnag on Saturday night. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.(UNI)
