Srinagar, Apr 15 : Army on Monday paid floral tribute to a Major, who was killed when he slipped and fell into a deep gorge near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector in north Kashmir district of Kupwara.
An Army official said that Army paid a befitting tribute with full military honours to Major Vikas Singh, who was critically injured after he fell into a deep gorge while patrolling forward areas in upper reaches of Kumkadi forests in Machil sector on Sunday. “The injured was immediately taken to a hospital from where he was referred to Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar,” he said.
The officer later succumbed in the Base hospital.
“Tribute to the valour and sacrifice of the late officer was paid in a solemn ceremony held at Badami Bagh Cantonment here, where Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen KJS Dhillon and all ranks paid homage to the martyr on behalf of a proud nation,” he said.
Maj Vikas had joined the Army in 2010 and belongs to village Tarighat of Ghazipur District of Uttar Pradesh. The 29-year-old officer is survived by his wife and a daughter.
The mortal remains of the officer were flown to his native village, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. (UNI)
