Normal life remains crippled for 3rd day in parts of Ganderbal

Agency News

Srinagar, Apr 9: Normal life remained crippled for the third successive day on Tuesday in parts of central Kashmir district of Ganderbal against the killing of a local militant in an encounter with security forces in Shopian on Saturday.

A police official said that there was no restriction in any part of the Ganderbal though security forces have been deployed in sensitive areas to maintain law and order. Even though there was no strike called by any separatist group, shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Nunner and adjoining areas in Ganderbal. However, some private vehicles were plying on roads in these areas.

Work in government offices and banks were also affected in these areas, where schools witnessed less attendance of students in view of the strike. But, business and other activities were normal in other parts of Ganderbal district.

Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces on Saturday in an orchard in south Kashmir district of Shopian. One of the slain militant was identified as an M Tech student Rahil Rashid Sheikh, a resident of Nunner in Ganderbal. He had reportedly joined Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) on April 3. UNI
