Srinagar, Apr 2 : The daily-wagers of Public Health Engineering (PHE) on Tuesday locked down offices across Kashmir valley as a protest, demanding release of wages pending from last about three years and regularisation of services.
Threatening to intensify their protests if their demands were not fulfilled till April 6, the employees said that they will be left with no option but to stop the water supply to the valley.
Holding placards and banners, which read, ‘Complete Lockdown’, ‘Release our wages’, ‘Regularize our services or face action’, scores of demonstrators protested in the compound of the PHE main office in Srinagar.
“Our wages have not been release since 2017. How, can the authorities expect us to work without salaries? Our children are being thrown out of schools as we haven’t paid their fees for many months,” the protestors said.
The protestors said that if their demands were not fulfilled till April 6, they will intensify their protests. “If till April 6 our demands were not fulfilled, our leaders will meet on the same day and decide further course of action,” they said.
When asked what the further course of action will be, the protestors said that they will be left with no option but to stop water supply to the people in the valley.
Reports of similar lockdown and protests by PHE daily-wagers came from other parts of the valley. (UNI)
